NJ DHS Honors 2 Ocean City Students For Their Writing

OCEAN CITY, N.J. — Two Ocean City High School students were among winners in a statewide art and writing contest. Erin Hanlon and Elijah Cochran placed second and third in the writing category of the New Jersey Child Support Teen Media Contest.

New Jersey's Department of Human Services runs the annual contest, which celebrates artistic portrayals of situations when the students felt most supported by a parent or loved one.

Assistant Director of the New Jersey Office of Child Support Services Patricia Risch, Erin Hanlon, New Jersey Department of Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson and Natasha Johnson, Director of the New Jersey Department of Human Service’s Division of Family Development.

Hanlon and Cochran placed second and third, respectively, in the written work category. Sixteen students received honors.

“I thank everyone who participated for helping shine a spotlight on what it means to support children and the impact that support has on their lives,” Human Services Deputy Commissioner Elisa Neira said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity to highlight the outstanding abilities of New Jersey’s young people while also bringing attention to the importance of young people having a strong support system.”

All winning entries will be featured in the 2020 Human Services Child Support calendar. Winning submissions and honorable mentions will be displayed in the Statehouse Annex Tunnel from June 3 to 7.
