No Swimming On Ocean City Beaches Friday

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Swimming is prohibited at all Ocean City beaches Friday as Hurricane Lee brings rough surf and rip currents to the Jersey Shore.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol sent out an alert Friday morning that there would be no swimming that day.

"For your own safety, please do not enter the ocean," the Ocean City Beach Patrol said.

Ocean City is not the only shore town to ban swimming after a recent string of ocean rescues - and deaths - due to swimmers getting caught in rough surf.

Seaside Heights officials said that they would be ticketing anyone who went into the water. Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant Beach has locked all access gates along its beaches. Read more: Stay Out Of The Water: Jersey Shore Beach Towns Fight To Curb Swimmers

Beaches in Ocean City will still remain open, so visitors are still allowed to sit on the sand.

The Beach Patrol said to check back for updates on ocean conditions on Saturday. As of Friday morning, the following beaches are set to be guarded Saturday and Sunday:

• St. Charles Place
• 8th Street
• 9th Street
• 12th Street
• 34th Street
• 58th Street

All guarded beaches are set to be closed for the season after Sept. 17.
