Nominations Sought For Martin Luther King Jr Community Service Awards In Ocean City

The award honors a community member who exemplifies the spirit and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — City officials are seeking nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award.

Each year, the award honors a community member who exemplifies "the philosophy and ideas of the late Dr. King, who worked to advance civil rights, equal education, labor rights, voter rights and who fought racial inequality through non-violence and civil disobedience," Ocean City officials said.

Specifically, the award focuses on volunteer activity and service to the community outside of a work setting for a minimum of two years.

"Ocean City is now seeking nominations for the 2023 awards," officials said. "A committee appointed by the Department of Community Services will select the award recipients and finalists from the nominations."

The nominee and nominator will be notified by Dec. 16 and honored on Jan. 16 during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony. The ceremony is held at Music Pier and starts at 12 p.m.

Submit your nominations online here. They must be submitted no later than Dec. 9.
