Nor'easters Continue Early Season Road Success In Brooklyn

Ocean City came from behind to win its Premier Development League opener Sunday night.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Nor’easters men’s soccer team continued its early season road success with a come-from-behind win Sunday night.

After giving up an early goal on a free kick, the Nor’easters rallied for a 2-1 win over FA Euro New York at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY, in their Premier Development League opener on Sunday night, May 13.

Deri Corfe responded to the early goal with an equalizer off an assist from Matteo Bennati. The Nor’easters then scored what turned out to be a game-winning goal in the 29th minute, when the Nor’easters won a free kick.

Corfe stepped up to take the free kick and served it into the box where it found Fredlin "Fredinho" Mompremier’s head. Fortunately for the visitors, Fredinho's header was redirected into the goal by an FA Euro defender.

For Corfe, while not directly responsible for the second goal against FA Euro, the former Manchester City youth academy product has been involved in four of Ocean City's five goals this season. Goalie Alec Sir finished with eight saves for the Nor’easters.

Ocean City improved to 7-0-0 all-time against FA Euro in a matchup that dates back to 2013. This also marks the fifth game in a row between these two clubs that was decided by a single goal.

"It was a brilliant comeback from the lads tonight, especially playing away from home," Ocean City head coach John Thompson said. "We went behind from a dead ball but once again looked solid in open play. We have to do a better job on possession when in the lead, and to keep pressing the opponent back and put their defense under pressure, but it was a great win for the club to start the season."

But it wasn’t the first road win for the Nor’easters this season, and they’re hoping it’s not the last. Ocean City defeated AFC Ann Arbor, 3-0, in the first round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Eastern Michigan University last week.

Their second game in the 105th edition of the oldest cup competition in the United States is Wednesday night, May 16, 7 p.m. at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews, N.C., against the Charlotte Independence.

If Ocean City wins in North Carolina next week, it may play a home game in the third round of the tournament on May 23, but potential third round matchups have not yet been set. Otherwise, Ocean City may not play at The Beach House until the league home opener on June 3.

Whenever they do make it home, the Nor'easters have a distinct advantage. Since 2003, the Nor'easters have the fifth-best home record of any team in their league with a 71-24-23 mark.
