Ocean City Among Best NJ Towns To Live In, Report Says

OCEAN CITY, NJ — If you live in Ocean City or find yourself there often, one report says you're making a good choice. Niche says Ocean City is one of the best places to live in New Jersey.

Niche has come out with its new 2019 rankings of the "Best Places to Live" in New Jersey, but for at least the third year in a row, it took a bit of a unique approach: The consumer rankings service assigned a grade, on an A+-to-D- scale, to almost every town in the state.

Ocean City received an A- grade in the new rankings. To arrive at the rankings, Niche.com took several factors into consideration, such as the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities.

Niche created a standardized score for each factor, and after weighting each factor, an overall score was calculated, which was again given a new standardized score.

Finally, Niche.com created a numerical ranking and assigned grades for each place. Click here to read more about the methodology.

Niche rated Ocean City the second best place to raise a family in Cape May County, behind only Stone Harbor. Ocean City also received the following grades:

• public schools: A
• housing: C
• good for families: A-
• jobs: B-
• cost of living: C-
• outdoor activities: A
• crime and safety: C+
• nightlife: A-
• diversity: B
• weather: B-
• health and fitness: B+
• commute: A-

"Living in Ocean City offers residents a suburban feel and most residents own their homes," the report says. "In Ocean City there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many retirees live in Ocean City and residents tend to lean conservative. The public schools in Ocean City are highly rated."
