OCEAN CITY, NJ — Several cats at Ocean City's Mew To You were rescued under unfortunate conditions. But a one-eyed cat name Daniel is the face of a cause helping the feline community.

He was one of four kittens rescued from an Atlantic City yard. A caretaker fed the cats but neglected their health issues, and all had eye infections.

Cape Atlantic C.A.TS., a local cat rescue, took them in. The other kittens recovered from upper-respiratory and eye infections, but one of Daniel's eyes couldn't be saved. Dr. Lori Nordt and staff at Atlantic Animal Health surgically removed it.

But now he's doing better. Daniel and his siblings now live at Mew To You. He and his litter mates are looking for caring, lifelong homes.

Daniel is a loving, playful kitten. A fentanyl patch helps alleviate his pain. Although he's made progress, he was a victim of an issue in the cat community, Cape Atlantic C.A.TS. says.

The organization advocates for TNR: Trap-Neuter-Return. Although Daniel was lucky to get rescued, a TNR approach prevents cats like him from suffering and dying.

Through a TNR approach, community cats are humanely trapped, brought to a veterinarian for spaying or neutering, ear-tipped and returned to their outdoor home. Ear-tipping is a universal sign that a community cat has been spayed or neutered, according to Alley Cat Allies.

Atlantic City has issues with unaltered cats, according to Cape Atlantic C.A.TS. The organization is raising funds to target Atlantic City TNR projects underway.
