Ocean City Block Party Still On, Fireworks Canceled

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Saturday night's Indian Summer fireworks have been canceled due to a forecast for rough seas. Ocean City's fall block party and all other weekend events will continue as scheduled.

The National Weather Service placed Ocean City under a moderate coastal flooding advisory through 1 a.m. Saturday. But the weekend forecast calls for partly sunny skies, mild temperatures and light winds. The fireworks were set to be launched from a barge in the ocean off Ninth Street.

The block party takes place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on Asbury Avenue between 5th and 14th streets. The event features more than 400 crafters, food vendors and entertainers.

Entertainers and bands will perform at various spots along the street between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. A few perennial favorites include the Tidal Wave Band (at 10th Street) and the Pennsport String Band (at 13th Street). The cast of "The Marvelous Wonderettes" will perform from the steps of City Hall. Pony rides for children will be available at the Ocean City Tabernacle (Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue) during the same hours.

Street parking will be free at all metered spots and municipal parking lots in Ocean City, including at the Transportation Center lot (Ninth Street and Haven Avenue) and at the municipal lots on the 700 and 800 blocks of Central Avenue.

The Indian Summer weekend celebration also includes a seafood festival Saturday and Sunday, when there will be seafood vendors at the Music Pier.

Downtown and boardwalk merchants will hold table sales with discounted merchandise set up between Sixth Street and 14th Street on the boardwalk and Asbury Avenue throughout the weekend.
