Ocean City Boys Basketball Team Opens Boardwalk Classic With Win

The Red Raiders defeated Cape May Tech in the Showcase Classic to kick off this year's event.

Connor Laverty’s 20 points paced the Ocean City High School boys basketball team to a 48-37 win over Cape May Tech in their first appearance in the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood.

Laverty also had seven rebounds and an assist, and hit a pair of three-pointers.

Garrett Jones was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 6-of-7 shots on his way to a 10-point performance. He also had seven rebounds and one assist.

As a team, the Red Raiders were 23-of-29 from the free-throw line, with Zach Altieri going 4-for-4 on his way to eight points. He had seven rebounds.

Ocean City scored the first 13 points of the game, and built an 18-4 lead after one quarter.

The game was the first boys game to tip off at this year’s Boardwalk Classic, and was labeled a “Showcase Game.” The Red Raiders will play twice more before the week-long tournament concludes.

Ocean City plays Kings Christian in the first round of the Bernie McCracken Memorial Bracket on Sunday, 1 p.m. Devon Prep (PA) plays Wildwood in the other first round game. The consolation and final will be played on Monday.
