Ocean City Boys Basketball Team Opens Boardwalk Classic With Win

Ocean City defeated Burlington City in a showcase game on Saturday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Three players dropped 13 points each to lead the Ocean City High School boys basketball team to a 56-50 win over Burlington City in the first game of the Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Saturday.

Donovon Graham had 13 points, four rebounds and five assists for the Red Raiders in the win. Issac Robertson had 13 points and five rebounds, and Luke Varallo had 13 points, one rebound and one assist in the win.

Joey Sacco had six points and a team-high seven rebounds for Ocean City. D’Andre Thurmond had a double-double, with 21 points and 14 rebounds, for Burlington City. To view the full box score, visit bbclassic.com.

Ocean City jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the Crest Savings Bank Battle of the Boards showcase game. Ocean City improved to 3-1. Burlington City fell to 2-1.

Ocean City returns to the court at the Boardwalk Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 26, when it meets Conrad Sciences of Delaware in the opening round of the Ray Martin Memorial Bracket at 5:30 p.m. Millville plays Lower Moreland in the other game in the bracket at 4 p.m. the same day. The championship game will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 8:30 p.m. The consolation game is at 11 a.m. the same day.

The Ocean City girls are also competing in the six-day tournament, which raises college scholarship money for graduating seniors for the two high schools that host the tournament, Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic. The largest high school co-ed basketball tournament in the country has raised over $300,000 in scholarship money since its inception in 1998.

The Ocean City girls team opens play in the GWITDA Bracket on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 11 a.m., against Hatboro Horsham of Pennsylvania. Strath Haven and Methacton, both Pennsylvania high schools, meet in the bracket's other game at 12:45 p.m. The championship game will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 6:45 p.m. The consolation game is at 9:30 a.m. the same day.
