Ocean City Boys Basketball Team Set For Boardwalk Classic

The Red Raiders will play in a showcase game and play in the Frank McAlarnen bracket at the annual event.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - The Ocean City High School boys basketball team is on its way back to the nation’s largest high school co-ed tournament this holiday break. The annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic returns to the Wildwoods Convention Center Wednesday, Dec. 26, through Monday, Dec. 31, tournament officials said this week.

Teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Maryland and Virginia, with a total of about 1,000 competitors, are expected to compete.

Returning to this year’s annual holiday basketball tournament will be an additional day of competition on Saturday, Dec. 22. This day will consist of a day of showcase games, including a matchup between Ocean City and Kingsway.

The Red Raiders will face the Dragons in a Crest Savings Battle of the Boards Showcase game at 8:30 p.m.

The full tournament will kick off on Wednesday, Dec. 26, for six days of action.

The Ocean City boys will face City in the Frank McAlarnen bracket at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30. Boys Latin Charter (PA) will face Delcastle Tech (DE) in the bracket’s other semifinal game at 3 p.m. The winners meet in the final game of the Boardwalk Classic on Monday, Dec. 31, 12:30 p.m. The consolation game precedes the final at 11 a.m.

The Boardwalk Basketball Classic Tournament was founded in 2001 and continues to be the largest single-venue coed high school holiday basketball tournament in the United States. Since its inception, the tournament has raised nearly $300,000 in college scholarship money for graduating seniors at Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic high schools, the two host schools of the event. The tournament is run by an all-volunteer board that solicits sponsorships, ticket sales, and other support.
