Ocean City Boys, Girls Basketball Teams Advance at Boardwalk Classic

Each team will play for a trophy on Wednesday.

Both the Ocean City High School boys and girls basketball teams will be playing for trophies at this year’s Boardwalk Classic.

The boys defeated Upper Dublin (PA), 59-49, in a John Pierantozzi Boys Bracket Game at the Convention Center in Wildwood on Tuesday, according to bbclassic.com.

Connor Laverty led the way with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Luciano Lubrano recorded a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Garrett Jones had 13 points, five rebounds and an assist.

Ocean City held a two-point lead at halftime, blew things open with a 17-6 third quarter and held on for the win.

The Red Raiders will face Penn Charter (PA), a 50-29 winner over Montgomery Blair, in the championship game on Wednesday.

The girls defeated Downington East (PA), 39-25, in a John Carlson Memorial Girls Bracket Game on Tuesday, according to bbclassic.net.

Nicole Piergross led the way with 12 points, three rebounds and an assist. She was 3-for-4 from three-point range. Alexis Paone had nine points and four rebounds, and Grace Sacco had eight points and four rebounds.

Ocean City built a 10-point halftime lead and never looked back.

The Red Raiders will face Berks Catholic (PA), a 40-36 winner over Council Rock North (PA) in the championship game on Wednesday.
