Ocean City Braces For Flooding Through Friday

OCEAN CITY, NJ — There's a good chance of flooding through Friday in Ocean City, according to the National Weather Service. The city is under a flood advisory through 11 a.m. Thursday and under a more several flood watch from 4 p.m. Thursday through Friday.

Northeast winds are projected as fast as 28 mph Wednesday and 29 mph Thursday and Friday. The NWS forecasts gusts as high as 39 mph Wednesday and 44 mph Thursday and Friday.

Ocean City may experience coastal flooding during high tides Wednesday through Friday. Projections call for a chance of minor flooding Wednesday evening.

Here's the high tide schedule:

• 6:13 p.m. Wednesday (6 feet on mean low water scale, minor flooding)
• 6:44 a.m. Thursday (5.9 feet, minor)
• 6:59 p.m. Thursday (7 feet, moderate)
• 7:25 a.m. Friday (6.8 feet, moderate)
• 7:40 p.m. Friday (6.5 feet, moderate)

For perspective, flooding last Thursday reached 5.98 feet MLW.

Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are at higher elevation. Parking will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).

Never attempt to drive through flood waters and don't drive around barricades. City crews are clearing out storm drains in advance. But storm prep can include making sure inlets near homes are clear of debris.
