Ocean City Business Administrator Mike Dattilo to Retire
Mayor Jay Gillian will appoint Jim Mallon to fill the role on Dec. 29.

Ocean City Business Administrator Mike Dattilo intends to retire in 2015, and Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian intends to appoint James Mallon as his successor.
“Business Administrator Michael Dattilo has advised me of his intention to retire in 2015,” Gillian said in a prepared statement.
Gillian said he would ask City Council to approve his appointment of James Mallon as Business Administrator at its meeting on Dec. 29, 1 p.m. at City Hall.

Dattilo will continue to serve as Aide to the Mayor until he retires, Gillian said.
“I have said on many occasions that I feel succession planning is essential for key positions within the City government,” Gillian said. “We have done that in this case, and Jim Mallon is extremely qualified to assume the responsibilities of the position of Business Administrator. Appointing him at this time will allow him to assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the City while Mike focuses on completing some important pending projects and objectives of this Administration and the City Council.

“Mike and Jim will continue to work together with me on important matters of policy and planning in the coming year. They have worked together effectively in a variety of capacities over the years and I’m confident this transition will be smooth and productive.”
