Ocean City Council Approves $10,250,000 Bond Ordinance

The funding will help Ocean City continue to make improvements throughout the city.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Council approved a proposed bond ordinance that will help officials continue to make improvements throughout the city.

The bond ordinance sets aside $10,250,000 and appropriates $9,737,500 in bonds and notes for various upgrades throughout the city. The upgrades are as follows, according to the agenda packet posted on the city's website:

  • $4,100,000 for the construction and reconstruction of various streets and alleys, with an estimated $3,895,000 to be borrowed;
  • $1,650,000 for the construction and reconstruction of various storm water drainage systems, with an estimated $1,567,500 to be borrowed;
  • $4 million for lagoon and back bay dredging, including but not limited to permitting, engineering and dredging of the areas as well as the preparation or emptying of one or more confirmed disposal facility sites. The estimated amount to be borrowed is $3,800,000; and
  • $500,000 for construction, rehabilitation and repair of public buildings, including but not limited to comfort station renovations, music pier roof repairs, replacement of underground storage tanks, vehicle maintenance utility upgrades and all related items. The estimated amount to be borrowed is $475,000.

Council also hired an architect to help conceptualize a new complex for police operations and the municipal court, according to ocnjdaily. It also approved a settlement for the lawsuit concerning its affordable housing obligations.
