Ocean City Council to Elect New Vice President Thursday Night

Michael Allegretto has recused himself from council business pending his approval as Director of Community Services.

Ocean City Council will elect its new vice president Thursday night.

Ocean City Council approved a resolution at its last meeting allowing Mayor Jay Gillian to appoint current Council Vice President Michael Allegretto as the new Director of Community Services.

Allegretto doesn’t have to resign his seat on council until the appointment becomes official. However, Allegretto has recused himself from council business moving forward in an attempt to avoid any potential appearance of a conflict. This leaves council without a vice president.

When Ocean City Council meets on Thursday night, 7 p.m., at City Hall, it will take nominations for and elect a new vice president.

There will also be a public hearing and final vote on an ordinance that amends the zoning and land development ordinance so that yoga studios are now permitted in the Neighborhood Business Zone. The proposed ordinance is in an effort to diversify the zone and help it survive, and the city is open to further suggestions on potential changes.
