Ocean City Eagle Scout Helps Vets Learn Computer Skills: Reports

Michael Doliszny of Ocean City helped develop a free computer course for veterans at Atlantic Cape Community College, according to reports.

As an Eagle Scout, Michael Doliszny had already done plenty to help the community. But the Ocean City resident noticed something: many veterans didn't have the computer skills necessary for this tech-oriented world.

As a result, Doliszny partnered with Atlantic Cape Community College to launch free computer training classes for veterans, according to OCNJ Daily. The course is set to begin Feb. 23 at the Court House campus, according to the Cape May County Herald.

"Primarily, they talked about how they never learned how to use computers, and that society expects them to be tech-savvy, when in reality, no one has ever taught them," Doliszny told the Cape May County Herald.

To create the class, Doliszny collaborated with the Department of Veterans Affairs-WVAMC, Atlantic Cape Community College and the local volunteer veterans council (CVAC-Cape May), according to OCNJ Daily.

Doliszny, a senior at St. Augustine Prep, raised over $14,000 in pledged donations for the course, the Cape May County Herald reported. Most of the donations ranged from $25 to $300, but he received several for $500 and 1,000, he told the Cape May County Herald.

“I am grateful for the generosity and financial support of this program, as we are grateful for the service of our veterans," Doliszny told OCNJ Daily. "This is an opportunity to give back to our veterans by helping them in a (practical) way.”

Veterans interested in the free basic computer training course should contact Nelson Gonzalez at (609) 413-1451, according to the Cape May County Herald.
