Ocean City Firefighters Receive Teddy Bears For Kids

Freddie's Teddies honors victim of fatal hit-and-run, donates stuffed animals to police, fire departments and rescue squads.

Jennifer L. "Freddie" Meadows made her love for teddy bears well known, friends and family say. Meadows was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run in November 2017 in Huntington, W. Va. But her good spirit has carried on, as the Ocean City Firefighters Association received a donation of teddy bears called Freddie's Teddies.

Brothers in Blue Motorcycle Club, "Jersey Devil" Chapter — the local chapter of a motorcycle group for police, firefighters, EMS and military — stopped by Ocean City's Platoon B last week and delivered teddy bears. The firefighters offer them to children to help put them at ease during traumatic events.

Freddie's Teddies collects and distributes teddy bears to police, fire departments and rescue squads. They also give some to community centers, pediatric units and other places where they can help a child in need, their Facebook page says.

Brothers in Blue MC, "Jersey Devil" Chapter says they have distributed over 3,000 teddy bears since they started the program in 2017. There are now Freddie's Teddies programs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Ocean City Firefighters Association also thanked Millville's PetSmart for making a major donation to the cause. Millville's PetSmart has a major sponsor of the program, Brothers in Blue MC, "Jersey Devil" Chapter said.
