Ocean City Girls Basketball Team Opens Season With Win

The Red Raiders come into the season as the reigning NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 champion.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City High School girls basketball team came out of the gate with a win in its season opener Friday night. The Red Raiders defeated Middle Township, 47-43, according to nj.com. Junior Tori Rolls was expected to be front and center in that game, quite an accomplishment for someone who broke her collarbone during soccer season.

After leading the Red Raiders soccer team in scoring as a sophomore, she broke her collarbone in the first game of her junior season, according to the Ocean City Gazette. She tried to get the doctor to clear her to return to the field, but it didn’t happen.

She will be a starter for the basketball team, and coach Paul Baruffi told the newspaper she can “change the dynamic of the way the team plays.”Ocean City enters the season as the reigning NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 champions. They fell by just three points to Pascack Valley in the state championship game.
