Ocean City Heart Walk Raises Funds, Builds Healthy Habits

OCEAN CITY, N.J. β€” The American Heart Association's Heart Walk will take place Saturday, May 18 in Ocean City. Heart disease and stroke survivors will lead the walk to raise funds and inspire others.

The walk takes place at the Ocean City Sports & Civic Center, along with 5th and 6th Streets and Boardwalk. Activities begin at 9 a.m., the program starts at 10 a.m. and the ribbon cutting and walk kick off at 10:30 a.m.

Stroke and heart disease survivors will wear red and white caps to lead the 2019 Southern NJ Spring Heart Walk. Katherine Tiemann, a heart attack survivor at age 51 and 2019 Southern NJ Spring Heart Walk survivor ambassador, will be among the leaders.

The American Heart Association's Healthy For Good movement encourages Americans to lead healthier lives. The organization delivers science-based tools, tips, recommendations and motivation to build healthier behaviors.

The walk also raises funds to support the fight against heart disease and stroke, the nation's No. 1 and 5 leading causes of death, respectively. The Heart Walk is held in more than 305 communities nationwide.

The event is rain or shine. The walk will feature free health screenings, a celebration of community members who made healthy lifestyle changes, a kid's zone, CPR demonstrations and music and entertainment.
