Ocean City High School Boys Basketball Team Picks Up Win on Boardwalk Classic's Opening Day

The Red Raiders downed Haverford in a showcase game on Wednesday.

The Boardwalk Basketball Classic is underway and Ocean City High School already has its first win.

The Red Raiders defeated Haverford, 44-35, in a showcase game at the Convention Center in Wildwood on Wednesday. Connor Laverty led the way with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, according to stats posted on bbclassic.com.

Garrett Jones had 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Luciano Lubrano had 10 points, including a three-pointer.

Kharon Randolph had a game-high 24 points for Haverford.

Ocean City trailed by one, 20-19, at halftime, but took control by outscoring Haverford, 17-9, in the third quarter.

There were three showcase games on Wednesday, and the tournament resumes on Saturday.

The boys will also compete in the John Pierantozzi bracket next week.

The Red Raiders open the tournament against Upper Dublin (PA) at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Penn Charter (PA) plays Montgomery Blair (MD) in the other game at 12:45 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Dec. 30, preceded by the consolation game at 11:30 a.m.

The Ocean City High School girls basketball team will compete in the John Carlson Memorial bracket next week.

The Red Raiders will open the tournament against Downington East (PA) on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 4:15 p.m. Berks Catholic (PA) will play Council Rock North (PA) in the other game at 5:45 p.m.

The championship game is at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, preceded by the consolation game at 1:30 p.m.
