Ocean City High School Football Team Set For Playoffs

Ocean City is the No. 7 seed in the playoffs and visits Highland on Friday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ —The Ocean City High School football team is chasing a South Jersey championship this season. For the first time, the teams that emerge as South Jersey champions will play their Central Jersey counterparts.

Ocean City is the No. 7 seed in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 playoffs, according to nj.com. The Red Raiders will visit No. 2 Highland in the first round on Friday night, Nov. 2, 7 p.m.

The winner will face the winner of the game between No. 3 Clearview and No. 6 Hammonton in the semifinals on Nov. 9. The championship game is set for Nov. 16, but it doesn't end there this season.

After the traditional Thanksgiving Week rivalry games, the South Jersey Group 4 champions will play the Central Jersey Group 4 champions. To see the Central Jersey Group 4 bracket, visit nj.com.

Ocean City is 3-4 this season. It won its first three games of the season, but has dropped four straight. It won at Egg Harbor Township and Absegami, and at home against Bridgeton. Three of its four losses came at home, against St. Augustine, Oakcrest and Mainland. The Red Raiders went on the road in a loss to Triton.

Highland is 7-1 this season, with its lone loss coming at Burlington Township by one point on Oct. 20. The Tartans shut out three opponents this season, including Oakcrest, 30-0; Moorestown, 28-0; and Paul VI, 55-0. It also has a one-point win over Timber Creek, 16-15, on Sept. 28.
