Ocean City High School Junior to Play in Carpenter Cup Baseball Classic

Josh Arnold will compete as part of the Tri-Cape team beginning June 17.

An Ocean City High School baseball player will have the opportunity to play at Citizens Bank Park this summer.

Pitcher/Outfielder Josh Arnold, a junior, has been selected to play on the Tri-Cape team in the Carpenter Cup Classic, the Ocean City Gazette reports.

Arnold’s batting average was .304 this season. He had 28 hits and led the team with 18 RBI, according to the report. He had a 5.25 ERA and was 3-3 on the mound this season.

Junior Sean Mooney was also invited to play, but declined, according to the report.

The Carpenter Cup is named after former Philadelphia Phillies’ owners Bob and Ruly Carpenter. It was first played in 1986.

The tournament consists of high school baseball all-stars from the surrounding area. The Tri-Cape team consists of all-stars from the Tri-County Conference and the Cape-Atlantic League.

The 16-team, single elimination tournament begins June 15 at Ashburn Field in FDR Park. The semifinals and finals are set for June 22 and 23 at Citizens Bank Park.

Tri-Cape faces Lehigh Valley in the opening round on June 17.
