Ocean City To Honor Nancy Hughes Thursday Night

She will be remembered during this week's council meeting at City Hall.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will honor Nancy Hughes with a proclamation during this week’s council meeting. Ocean City Council will meet on Thursday night, April 12, 7 p.m. at City Hall, 861 Asbury Avenue.

Hughes passed away earlier this year. She was born on December 8, 1935, in Moorestown, New Jersey, Nancy graduated from Moorestown High School and attended Rutgers University.

She lived in Ocean City for more than 55 years, and was a member of the church and a dedicated mother, the proclamation honoring her life reads.

Her name is alongside her husband, Bill’s name, on the Bill and Nancy Hughes Performing Arts Center at Ocean City High School. She was dedicated to the school district and the students.

She and her husband also heavily influenced Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s campaign for Unity in the Community.

“That’s not only how he governed as a former Congressman, but how they both lived their lives,” Gillian says in the proclamation. “They taught me that I could be the best mayor by working with everybody.”

Council will also hold a pair of public hearings on proposed ordinances.

The first proposal would alter some of the fees associated with the use of electric golf carts. The cost for an electric cart rental would change from $20 per round to $10 per player, per round.

The other concerns amendments to city ordinance concerning background checks for employees and volunteers.
