Ocean City To Honor Several Community Members On MLK Day

Ocean City's Day of Service and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony and Soul Food Dinner are set for Jan. 20.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will hold two events Jan. 20 honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: the Day of Service and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony and Soul Food Dinner.

Ceremony

The ceremony brings the community together to remember King through words, song and dance. After the program, everyone is invited to a free soul food dinner in the cafeteria. The menu includes fried chicken and other comfort food.

Ocean City will honor several individuals for their community service: Antwan McClellan, Joseph Pratt, Georgina Shanley, Brittany Battle, Takiya Wilson and Joshua Baker. McClellan recently ended his time with City Council because he was elected to State Assembly.

Intermediate School students also will be honored for their winning essays reflecting on the lasting impact of Dr. King.

The Hughes Performing Arts Center entrance is on the beach block of 6th Street.

Day of Service

9 a.m. to noon, sign-ups and supply distribution at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center

The City asks citizens to participate in a citywide cleanup. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available back at the Senior Center after the cleanup. To participate or for more information, please call 609-399-6111.

The senior center is located in the Community Center at 18th Street and Simpson Avenue.
