Ocean City Library Celebrating Black History Month
Here's what's happening at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

Black History Month is coming to the Ocean City Free Public Library. Michelle Washington Wilson, a storyteller for more than 30 years, will lead the first two presentations. Here are the events:
- The Food and the Folks of the Great Migration (6:30 p.m. Feb. 11): stories of the widespread migration of African Americans in the 20th century from rural communities in the South to large cities and rural communities in the North, including Jersey Shore towns. Registration for this adults-only program is required. Call Julie at 609-399-2434 ext. 5222 to register.
- Quilts of Faith (6:30 p.m. Feb. 12): stories of African Americans weaving secret messages into quilt patterns in the 1800s to pass on clues and directions to runaway slaves. The program combines the legacy of quilting with stories and songs. This program for all ages also has local ties. Registration is required. Call the Children’s Department at 609-399-2434 ext. 5241 to register.
- Learn About Infobase Research Databases (9:30-11:30 a.m. Feb. 19): learn about the library's research tools, particularly as they relate to African-American history. Call 609-399-2434, ext. 5222 to register.
- Programs also include Story Hour (10:30 a.m. Feb. 15), Toddler Time (10:30 a.m. Feb. 25), Story Train (1:30 p.m. Feb. 25) and a free screening of Selma (noon Feb. 26).
