Ocean City Looks Into Beach, Boardwalk Litter
Ocean City will increase the number of undercover officers patrolling the beaches and boardwalk for violators.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City officials are seeking ways to reduce litter on the beaches and boardwalk, Mayor Jay Gillian said Wednesday. Gillian has received many complaints in the past few weeks about increased litter and the conduct of some in the areas.
"The city had anticipated an increased volume of trash due to the takeout-only restriction and to the greater number of people in town for early June, but not to the degree we saw over the last two weekends," Gillian said in a letter.
Police Chief Jay Prettyman has already increased the number of undercover officers patrolling the beach and boardwalk for violators, Gillian said. The police department has already increased the number of highly visible patrols.

"In addition, a new group of seasonal officers is currently in training and expected to graduate soon," Gillian said. "Their addition to the force will help increase visibility and awareness and enhance our enforcement efforts."
The city will also increase trash pickup routes and provide special receptacles for pizza boxes. They're also working with businesses to reduce the bulk of takeout containers when possible, he says.
