Ocean City Mayor Asks For More Time To Consider Boardwalk Entertainer Legislation
The final vote on the proposed ordinance was originally set for Dec. 29, but the mayor would like to vote on the proposal in January.

Ocean City, NJ -- Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian is asking for more time between Thursday night’s introduction of a proposed ordinance governing performers on the boardwalk and the public hearing and final vote.
“The ordinance is a work in progress,” Gillian said in his weekly address posted Friday on the city’s website. “Although the second reading and public hearing was announced for Dec. 29, I’m now asking that the next meeting be scheduled in January to allow time for more input from everybody who would be affected. The idea designates spots for performers at every block between Fifth Street and 14th Street. I look forward to coming up with a system that satisfies everybody’s needs and allows everybody to have another summer of fun on the boardwalk.”
The proposal calls for a $25 application fee and a $50 annual license fee.

Two teenagers who spoke out against the original proposal in March returned to speak to council about the proposal on Thursday night, saying the proposed legislation still had a negative impact on the young.
The original proposal was tabled after they spoke when Gillian said anytime something affects kids, “it really hits me.”
