Ocean City Is New Jersey's Happiest Town, Study Says

Using census data, analysts at HomeSnacks determined that out of the 265 largest cities in New Jersey, Ocean City is the happiest.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — It's hard to be unhappy when you're enjoying a warm summer day at the beach.

The folks at HomeSnacks, a website dedicated to analyzing data to share information about towns across the country, would be inclined to agree. Their latest analysis, The 10 Happiest Cities In New Jersey For 2024, came to the conclusion that out of New Jersey's 265 largest cities, Ocean City is the happiest.

"Ocean City is by far the happiest place in the state of New Jersey," HomeSnacks said. More than 17 percent of residents are married, and an average commute time of about 29 minutes each way means more time spent with the spouse and children, according to the website.

HomeSnacks used census data to determine the rankings, focusing on the following:

  • Percentage of residents with a college degree
  • Average commute times
  • Unemployment rates
  • Cost of living
  • Percentage of married couples
  • Percentage of families with kids
  • Poverty rate

Ocean City also has a poverty rate of 10.3 percent, contributing to its high ranking - HomeSnacks gave the city a 9 out of 10 for "overall SnackAbility."
