Ocean City Nor'easters To See Familiar Face Against Fury Sunday

The Nor'easters travel to Rowan University to face the Philadelphia Fury this weekend.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Nor’easters men’s soccer team will see a familiar face when they travel to Gloucester County this weekend to take on a professional team in an exhibition game.

The Nor’easters will face the Philadelphia Fury on Sunday night, May 6, 7 p.m. at Rowan University. The Fury are a professional side that competes in the American Soccer League (ASL). They have played in the ASL championship game each of the last two seasons. They were undefeated last season (20-0-0) and defeated r Mass United FC, 3-1, in the title game.

The Fury's President and CEO Matt Driver was the first head coach in Nor’easters history. The team, then known as the South Jersey Barons, was established in 1997. In 1999, Driver led the team to the USL's D-3 Pro League championship game.

He coached the team until 2002, when he resigned to take a coaching job with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. He remains the most successful coach in Nor’easters team history with a record of 53-38-2 record.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Philadelphia Fury t-shirt and a raffle ticket that will go toward a chance to win a 50-inch television.
Rowan University is located at 201 Mullica Hill Road in Glassboro.
