Ocean City Nor'easters to Train Athletes Throughout South Jersey

The Nor'easters announced a partnership with the Washington Township Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The Ocean City Nor’easters soccer team is looking to bring high quality soccer instruction to residents throughout South Jersey through a series of partnerships, beginning with the Washington Township Sports Complex in Gloucester County.

Training will be available for athletes in South Jersey year round. Players will be eligible to train at the facility without losing any potential eligibility for club teams. The Nor’easters will not be creating their own youth teams.

“The Nor’easters will grow and expand its reach throughout Southern Jersey via our Regional Training Centers and “club neutral” youth programming,” Nor’easters General Manager Kevin Nuss said. “We want to assist the clubs throughout the region to develop their own players and coaches and to help establish a long term development plan. We want to help create a viable path to the collegiate and professional game for every player and coach in the region.”

“We are excited to announce our partnership with the Nor’easters,” Jim Ashmen, owner and director of the Washington Township Sports Complex, said. “The Nor’easters are an established franchise that will provide athletes with many benefits. Our 34 acre facility features outdoor soccer fields and two indoor turf fields, giving the staff and players the perfect foundation for success.”

The long term development based training programs will be designed specifically by the Ocean City Nor’easters Technical staff and will supplement their existing club training.

There will be two sessions this summer.

The first camp will take place from June 22-26. It will include the Lil’ Stormers age group and the Train Like A Nor’easter group. The Lil’ Stormers camp is for ages 3-7 and provides young players with an introduction to soccer. The Train Like A Nor’easter camp provides a unique development curriculum for ages 8-14.

All campers will receive a free ticket to Nor’easters game, a soccer ball and a T-shirt.

All athletes will be taught by the award winning coaching staffs of the Nor’easters 1st Team, Reserves, and U23 teams, youth coaching staff, former Nor’easters players, as well as local college coaches.

“The creation of the first Regional Training Center at the Washington Township Sports Complex is huge for the Ocean City Nor’easters! The club has been in South Jersey for 19 years but this gives us a true home outside of Ocean City for the first time since moving to the beach 11 years ago,” Nuss said. “Partnering with the Washington Township Sports Complex allows us to create and maintain a year round experience for our fans that support us during the summer season at the beach.”

The Nor’easters are an amateur soccer team that competes in the United Soccer League Premier Development League. The team has sent 36 players on to professional teams.
