OCEAN CITY, NJ — Niche, a website known for its extensive rankings of schools, universities and communities, recently released rankings on the "best places to teach" in the United States and in New Jersey. And according to the data, the Ocean City School District is one of the best places to teach.

The platform's methodology incorporates several factors, including a school district's overall Niche grade, resources and facilities, and student-teacher ratio. But 30 percent of Niche's calculations include each district's average teacher salary and teacher salary index — the average teacher salary normalized by median household income by county.

The Ocean City School District ranked 21st out of the state's top school districts, with an average teacher salary of $92,453.

The district has a 12:1 student-teacher ratio and an overall A- grade given by Niche. The teachers get an A grade, according to the website.

The median public-school teacher salary in the state last year totaled $74,186, according to the New Jersey Department of Education. But Patch's data analysis found major disparities by type of school and by district. (The state's data included median salary, while Niche's evaluations use average-salary data from the U.S. Department of Education.)
