Ocean City Patch Letter To The Editor: Comparing Attempts To Control Boardwalk Entertainers To The Yellow Submarine
Steven Fenichel responds to the mayor's comments during the discussion on entertainers Thursday night.

To the Editor:
The Mayor and Council with its high handed attempt to deter performers on the boardwalk reminds me of the film Yellow Submarine.
In it, the Blue Meanies were trying to remove music and color from the world. To the rescue came the Beatles. With each note they emitted the Meanies were repelled and then they were gone.

How has Ocean City lost its soul on the alter of Mammon. Is only the Merchants' agenda of concern to the politicians?
Finger printing, background checks, application fees, police harassment is all part of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce welcome package to performers.

It took a little bit of time for Mayor Gillian to go from the pity party mode of how "this is not meant to deter to "the tenor is always that this is negative" to finally the truth: "we are just trying to control it."
When politicians are forced to get finger printed, have background checks then maybe they will be able to convince others.
Until then the performers and anyone observing this have their BS alarms blasting!
As one wise witness of the Council insanity remarked: "This is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist."
Sincerely yours,
Steven Fenichel
