Ocean City Protest Ready If Special Counsel Mueller Gets Fired

Concerns have emerged that Mueller could be fired after President Donald Trump named Matt Whitaker Acting Attorney General.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - If Special Counsel Robert Mueller is fired, a group of protesters is ready to mobilize in Ocean City.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump named Matt Whitaker the Acting Attorney General after Jeff Sessions resigned. Sessions will oversee Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between Trump and Russia.

The decision has been controversial because Whitaker has argued that Mueller’s investigation goes too far. This has led to speculation that Mueller may end up getting fired. The organizer for the Ocean City protest says this is a “rapid response event.”

“If Robert Mueller is fired we will be protesting at The Park at the corner of 9th Street and Asbury Avenue,” she wrote. “If he is fired and that happens before 2 p.m., we meet at 5 p.m. that day. If Mueller gets fired and is fired after 2 p.m., we meet at noon the next day.”

She made it a point to say this is a pro-Mueller rally, and discourages anyone from anti-Trump speech. It is intended to be a public and peaceful rally. Updates will be posted on the South Jersey Connection to Action Facebook page.

The event is among a multitude of events set up across the state and the nation following the announcement that Whitaker will be the Acting Attorney General.

“By replacing Rod Rosenstein with just-named Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker as special counsel Robert Mueller's boss on the investigation, Trump has undercut the independence of the investigation,” the Nobody Above the Law network said in announcing protests across the country. “Whitaker has publicly outlined strategies to stifle the investigation and cannot be allowed to remain in charge of it. The Nobody Is Above the Law network demands that Whitaker immediately commit not to assume supervision of the investigation. Our hundreds of response events are being launched to demonstrate the public demand for action to correct this injustice.”
