Ocean City Receives $290K Grant For Affordable Housing

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provided a total of $12,833,718 in federal funding for South Jersey communities.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will receive a $290,766 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the federal government announced this week.

Community Development Block Grants provide funding for the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for those with low- and moderate-incomes.

Emergency Solutions Grants: provide funding to engage homeless individuals and families living on the street; improve the number, quality and operations of emergency shelters for homeless individuals and families; provide essential services to shelter residents, rapidly re-house homeless individuals and families, and prevent families/individuals from becoming homeless.

The HOME program grants: help to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program grants: provide housing assistance and related supportive services for projects that benefit low-income persons medically diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and their families.

The Housing Trust Fund (HTF): a new affordable housing production program to increase and preserve the supply of decent, safe, and sanitaryaffordable housing for extremely low- and very low-income households, including homeless families.
