Ocean City Resident Tabbed for State Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect
E. Marie Hayes investigated allegations of child abuse and sexual assault as an investigator with the prosecutor's office in the 1970's.

A Cape May County Freeholder and Ocean City resident has been appointed as a public member to the New Jersey Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.
E. Marie Hayes was appointed on Wednesday, the Governor’s Office announced. She was one of five public members and 11 overall direct appointments made to the task force.
The task force makes recommendations on how to improve the quality and scope of child protective and preventative services provided or supported by state government, according to the state’s website.

In the 1970’s Hayes handled allegations of child abuse and sexual assault as an investigator with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, according to her biography on the county website. She was also a sergeant, lieutenant and captain in the prosecutor’s office before retiring in 2009.
As a freeholder, her duties include being a liaison to the Advisory Commission on the Status of Women, as well as various school board responsibilities, among other positions.

She was sworn in as a freeholder on Feb. 1, 2013, to fill the unexpired term of M. Susan Shepherd. She was elected to her first three-year term in November of 2014.
She and her husband Lloyd live in Ocean City with their son, Lloyd. She also has two grown daughters, Megan and Danielle, a son-in-law Vince and six grandchildren.
