Ocean City School District Superintendent Search Progresses

The Ocean City Board of Education is on track to name a new superintendent by April, following Christian Angelillo's upcoming retirement.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Board of Education is moving forward with its plan to select the Ocean City School District’s next superintendent by April.

This process began after Superintendent Christian Angelillo announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2026, in January.

The board immediately advertised the superintendent position and a special board meeting on Feb. 26 included a preliminary screening of candidates in executive session. The full board discussed the search process during this meeting, though no action was taken.

The board has outlined a timeline for the next stages of the selection process. First-round interviews with candidates are scheduled for the week of March 9. Second-round interviews will follow during the week of March 16. Following these interviews, the board plans to select a successful candidate and begin contract negotiations between late March and April.

The goal is to approve the district’s next superintendent at the April board meeting. By April 30, the board intends to approve the new superintendent and announce the appointment to the community. The official first day for the new superintendent is set for July 1. Updates on the search will be posted on ocsdnj.org.

The Ocean City School District serves approximately 1,700 students across three schools, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
