Ocean City Sets Air Show Weekend With Airport Festival, More
Free events include an airport festival, a parachute pyrotechnic show and a Sunday air show over the beach.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will host its Air Show Weekend on Sept. 19 and 20, with free events at the municipal airport, along the boardwalk and over the beach.
The weekend schedule includes an airport festival on Saturday, a parachute pyrotechnic show Saturday night and the Boardwalk Aerobatic Air Show on Sunday.
The celebration starts with the Ocean City Airport Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Municipal Airport at 26th Street and Bay Avenue. According to the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, the festival will feature a ground display of unusual airplanes ranging from World War II planes to warbirds and classics, along with food vendors, music, vehicle displays and kids’ activities.

Team Fastrax, identified as “America’s Skydiving Team,” is scheduled to perform a parachute jump at noon, depending on wind and weather conditions. A half-mile Runway Run/Walk will follow the jump and is open to all ages. Children’s activities from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. will include airplane and coloring contests, face-painting, city vehicle displays and appearances by Martin and Mollie Mollusk. Helicopter rides also will be available for purchase.
Additional parking for the airport festival will be available at Shelter Road, off Tennessee Avenue, with free shuttle service provided. The Saturday night Parachute Pyrotechnic Show is scheduled for 8 p.m. over Ocean City’s beach and boardwalk. According to the listing, Team Fastrax parachuters will exit an aircraft 6,000 feet above the beach and boardwalk and ignite white or multi-colored projectile pyrotechnics while flying in formation. The jump will end with a landing on the Seventh Street Beach and will be viewable along the entire Boardwalk.

Also on Saturday, the Righteous Brothers will perform with the Ocean City Pops at 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier for the orchestra’s season finale. The performance will pause so attendees can watch the pyrotechnic parachute jump outside the Music Pier. The Boardwalk Aerobatic Air Show will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, over the beach and boardwalk. The show will include Team Fastrax, Kevin Russo, the Jersey Jerks, Robert “Rooster” Schmidle and Dougherty Air Shows, among others. According to the event listing, the best viewing area is between Fifth Street and 14th Street. There is no rain date for any of the shows, and air performances may be canceled if weather conditions do not allow for safe flying.
