Ocean City Skatepark Reopens With Coronavirus Restrictions

The skatepark will not allow more than 10 skaters at a time, among several other updated rules.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Skatepark is back. The skatepark announced its reopening Thursday, which included several updated rules to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Here are the new rules:

  • only 10 skaters are permitted at a time.
  • skaters will be asked to leave the park once per hour for a brief cleaning. Once completed, staff will let 10 new skaters into the park.
  • if there are not 10 skaters on the waiting list, skaters will be allowed to immediately reenter.
  • no spectators.
  • no loaner equipment will be provided.
  • face masks must be worn at all times.
  • maintain a social distance of 6 feet.
  • use hand sanitizer.

Ocean City announced in mid-March it would close several recreational facilities, including playgrounds, the skate park, the street hockey rinks, municipal golf course, tennis, Pickleball and basketball courts. Read more: Ocean City Closes Playgrounds, More Amid Coronavirus

The closures came around the time that Cape May County first confirmed a coronavirus case. But the County and its towns have gradually lifted some coronavirus restrictions since, such as closures of beaches and boardwalks.

The skatepark is open from noon to dusk Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to dusk on weekends, weather permitting. Read the complete rules here.

Ocean City has 13 active coronavirus cases and 20 people cleared off quarantine as of Friday morning, according to the Cape May County Health Department. No coronavirus deaths have been reported in Ocean City.
