Ocean City Summer Theater Series Kicks Off With Roald Dahl
"Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka" will run on July 3 and 6 at the Ocean City Music Pier.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC) will once again present five family-friendly theatrical productions this summer, beginning with “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” on July 3 and 6 at the Ocean City Music Pier.
Based on the classic children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the show follows the enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.
Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats; the fifth is a likable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory- or suffer the consequences. This show has a 10:30 a.m. curtain.

OCTC’s 2018 Children’s Theatre Series in Ocean City continues throughout the summer. Join Junie B. Jones as she figures out all the other exciting changes that first grade has to offer in the delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s best-selling books in the July 10 show, “Junie B. Jones: The Musical.”
See your favorite fairy tales get uproariously derailed in the adaptation of Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's quintessential children's book of fractured fairy tales “The Stinky Cheese Man And Other Fairly Stupid Tales” on July 17.

Join the musical adventure of “Sleeping Beauty” on July 24 to see if Princess Talia, called “Little Beauty” by her family, can escape the curse placed by her jealous aunt and if her best friend Freya can be the hero the kingdom of Perceforest needs to break the curse.
The Children’s Theatre Series will conclude with “Miss Nelson Is Missing” on July 31. Miss Nelson’s class is the worst-behaved in the whole school, but when one day she doesn’t come to school, they get scary substitute Viola Swamp in her place. Hopefully, the students of Room 207 will find Miss Nelson before it's too late — for them!
All tickets are $10, with a $12 day-of price. For tickets to shows at the historic Ocean City Music Pier, call 609-399-6111 or visit www.oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice.
