Ocean City To Take Control Of Senior Center

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Come Feb. 1, Ocean City will be taking control of the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center.

The news was announced to participants in the program Thursday and confirmed by the county Tuesday, according to a report by the Press of Atlantic City. Mayor Jay Gillian announced the news in his weekly update this past Friday.

"Ocean City is excited to provide new services and enhancements to the already exceptional program at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center within our Community Center," Gillian said.

All existing services will remain the same or be improved, he said. Currently, the county-run program offers recreational services, meals and free transportation among other things, according to the Cape May County website.

Gillian said that the city is looking for new ideas for activities, events and entertainment for the senior center participants.

"The Community Center is really a treasure for everybody in our town, and we're always looking to make improvements to every aspect of it," Gillian said.
