Ocean City-Upper Township Falls in State Little League Final
Toms River escaped the Cape May County team's rally with a 7-6 win.
The Ocean City-Upper Township 11-12-year-old baseball team nearly came back from the Loser’s Bracket to win a state championship Monday night, but Toms River managed to escape the rally with a 7-6 win, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
Toms River advances to the Eastern Regional in Connecticut, beginning Saturday, according to the report.
It was the third time in less than a week that the teams played each other. Toms River won the first game, knocking Ocean City-Upper Township into the Loser’s Bracket on Friday. The first Cape May County team to play for a state title since 1957 defeated Somerset Hills on Saturday to advance to the final, then beat Toms River on Sunday to force a title game Monday night.
