Ocean City Wrestling Team Ties Gateway for Tournament Title; Basketball Teams Host Tipoff Classic
The wrestling team had three first-place finishers at the Gator Tournament on Saturday.

The Ocean City High School wrestling team got off to a successful start to the season when it tied host Gateway for the team title at the annual Gator Tournament on Saturday, according to nj.com.
Three Red Raiders captured first place as the teams each scored 218 points.
Senior Maverick Pearson won the 195-pound championship with an 11-4 win over Williamstown’s Josh Cooper in the final. He also picked up two victories by pinfall.

Mike Gardner captured the 182-pound crown with a 4-1 win over Williamstown’s Brandon Johnson.
Andrew Morrill won the 170-pound title.

The wrestling team’s success was part of a big opening weekend for the winter high school sports season in Ocean City.
Ocean City High School played host to the beginning of the basketball season this weekend when it hosted the Ocean City PBA Tipoff this weekend. The hosts split the Jack Boyd Memorial Doubleheader against Mainland.
Jack Boyd was a coach at Ocean City High School, and his sons played at Mainland.
The girls were upset victims thanks to a last-second shot by Mainland’s Gabby Boggs, according to the Ocean City Gazette. Mainland downed the Red Raiders, 27-26, as part of the Jack Boyd Memorial Doubleheader.
Ocean City was down by eight in the fourth quarter, but chipped away at the Mustangs’ lead, capped by the seeming winning basket by Sadie Ford with 5.4 seconds left. Grace Sacco powered the comeback with seven points, including a three-pointer that cut Mainland’s lead to 1 with 18.7 seconds left, according to the report.
The boys defeated Mainland, 66-53, according to nj.com.
