Ocean City's Luke Demore Wins District Wrestling Title

Demore is one of five wrestlers who advanced to the regional tournament, according to nj.com.

The Ocean City High School wrestling team is sending five wrestlers to the regional tournament following an impressive showing that included a District 32 champion at Absegami High School on Saturday.

Luke Demore captured the district title at 160 pounds. He defeated Egg Harbor Township’s Caleb Justis in the final, according to nj.com.

Demore advanced to the final with an 11-0 win over Middle Township’s Elvin Davilla in the semifinals. He defeated Absegami’s Anthony Rosario, 7-0, in the quarterfinals.

Vinny Levin, Andrew Morrill and Jeremy Grund advanced by taking second place in their respective weight classes.

Levin fell to St. Augustine’s Jarred Hodges, 5-2, in the 152-pound final. He advanced to the final with a 10-3 win over Cedar Creek’s Carlos Rivera in the semifinals. He defeated Middle Township’s Tyrell Hebron, 12-6, in the quarterfinals.

Morrill fell to St. Augustine’s Nick Clark, 9-5, in the 170-pound final. He pinned Egg Harbor Township’s James Bower to advance to the final. In the quarterfinal, he defeated Lower Cape May’s Joseph Flick, 7-3.

Grund lost to St. Augustine’s Jose Tabora, 4-3, in the 182-pound final. He defeated Egg Harbor Township’s Dietrich Trumbauer, 5-3, in the semifinals. He pinned Atlantic City’s Franco Castillo in the quarterfinals.

David Levin took third place at 120 pounds with a 4-2 win over Holy Spirit’s Alec Harper in the consolation round. He ended up in the consolation bout following a pinfall loss to St. Augustine’s Reid White in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Mainland’s Andrew Bradley by major decision, 13-4.

St. Augustine won the team title with 261.5 points, easily defeating second-place Egg Harbor Township, which had 137 points. Ocean City finished third with 113 points.

The Region 8 tournament begins Tuesday at Egg Harbor Township, 5:30 p.m.
