Patch Letter To The Editor: Concerns About The Use Of Ipe In Re-Decking Wildwood Boardwalk
Dr. Steven Fenichel voices concerns about the use of wood from the Amazon rainforest in the Wildwood Boardwalk project.

Dear Editor:
Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. is brazenly embracing his role of re-decking 20 blocks of the Wildwood boardwalk using old growth Ipe from the Amazon. On many levels this is a misuse of public tax dollars and he seemingly couldn't care less.
Never mind that Amazon deforestation accelerates the Climate Crisis, the murder of more than 1,000 people from illegal logging, the high quality of structural grade recycled material which should be considered (despite his proud boasting of being close minded on alternatives to this Rainforest obsession); ny fear is that his main concern is currying favor with Morey Pier on the Wildwood boardwalk.

Its owner, Will Morey, also happens to be a Cape May County Freeholder. You can bet if Morey had environmental concerns, Ipe would not be considered.
Do the right thing Mayor Troiano. Not just Wildwood is threatened by rising sea levels. It is the entire East Coast as well as human civilization which is also in the balance with the global Climate Crisis.

For the sake of humanity Mr. Troiano, be a part of the solution and not the problem as your present direction is going.
Sincerely yours,
Steven Fenichel, MD
