Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Somers Point: Police

SOMERS POINT, NJ — A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing Route 52 Saturday night, Somers Point police said.

The pedestrian, a 54-year-old Somers Point man, was crossing Route 52 in front of the Economy Motel around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle heading westbound, police said. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Trauma Unit where he died from his injuries, police said.

The driver, a 59-year-old Mt. Laurel woman, and her passenger, an 85-year-old man, were taken to Shore Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

This collision is currently under investigation by the Somers Point Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Fatal Collision Unit. Police said that excessive speed and/or impairment are not believed to be a factor.
