Ocean City Residents Can Now Email Comments On Dredging To U.S. Army Corps

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The public comment period concerning citywide bay dredging in Ocean City is now underway, and a change has been made in the way residents can submit their comments, city officials said on Thursday. In addition to mailing comments to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, comments can now also be emailed to James.N.Boyer@usace.army.mil.

The public comment period on the application commenced earlier this week. If approved, the application would allow every property owner on the bayfront and lagoons to be covered under the city permit. The city applied for the permit in December.

“The applicant, the City of Ocean City, NJ, proposes dredging areas located along the back-bay shoreline area of the City of Ocean City, Cape May County, New Jersey, within Beach Thorofare (and various connected basins, including artificial lagoons), Great Egg Harbor Bay, Peck Bay / Crook Horn Creek, and Middle Thorofare / Corson Inlet,” the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in a public notice announcing the public comment period.

Comments on the proposed work that are submitted in writing are due within 30 days to the District Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, Wanamaker Building, 100 Penn Square East, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107-3390. “Your support of the application is important to the approval of our permit application,” city officials said. “ … Your comments in support of the CENAP-OP-R-2010-311-24 is important to the Corps as they determine whether to issue or deny our application. Your comments do not have to be lengthy, just a few sentences in support and why it is important to Ocean City for the economy, property values, recreational opportunities, environmental impacts or whatever is important to you.”
