Quiet Festival Celebrates Ocean City Community Center In November
The festival returns the first weekend of November in Ocean City.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ssshhh. Ocean City’s annual Quiet Festival is on its way. This year’s festival, set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4 and 5, will celebrate all the resources of the Ocean City Community Center, city officials said.
The Ocean City Free Public Library, Ocean City Arts Center, Ocean City Historical Museum, Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center and Howard S. Stainton Senior Center will each host activities during the two-day festival. Some of the activities will include:
Royalty Storytime: Young princes and princesses are invited to come in royal attire to listen to a story with Miss Ocean City, Junior Miss Ocean City and Little Miss Ocean City.
Building Block/Brick Demo: Lego fans, here’s your chance to show off. Create your brick/block display and register for a building block demonstration and competition. You provide your own bricks/legos and displays can be made in advance.

Teddy Bear Tea and Ballet Demo with Miss New Jersey: Enjoy tea and storytime or the calm and quiet side of ballet in separate events with Miss New Jersey Kaitlyn Schoeffel.
Crossword Puzzle Competition: Crossword puzzle devotees are invited to a friendly competition featuring three puzzles of progressive difficulty. Two finalists will compete on boards, so the public can see the silent showdown.

Quiet Pet Competition: The traditional showcase event of the Quiet Festival takes place at the Senior Center.

Woodwork and Paintings Exhibit (All of October): Mother and son Christina and Justin Lowenstein will share their love of art through paintings, woodworking and metalwork at the Ocean City Arts Center through Oct. 31. Their exhibit, titled “Artistic Parallels,” features vibrant acrylic paintings by Christina Lowenstein and wood, metal and unique finish work of craftsman Justin Lowenstein. The Linwood residents will host a “Meet the Artists” reception, free and open to the public, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13. All work will be for sale. The Arts Center is within the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Avenue.
Broadway Songs and Concerts (Oct. 19): Ocean City duo Eric Johnston and Cricket Denton Brennan will perform a free concert of legendary Broadway songs at the Ocean City Arts Center 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. No reservations required for this event at the Arts Center (second floor within the Community Center at 1735 Simpson Avenue.
Red and White Weekend (Oct. 20 to 22): Ocean City High School’s Red and White Alumni Weekend will be held Oct. 20 to 22. Events include a pre-game picnic/rally, the Homecoming football game against Mainland Regional, the OCHS Class of 1997 20-year reunion, the Homecoming dance, and the OCHS Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2017 Induction Ceremony and Reception.
Beach Sweeps (Oct. 21): The semi-annual Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps invites everybody to volunteer to clean New Jersey’s beaches 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Last year, volunteers removed 218,807 pieces of debris statewide. Local volunteers are encouraged to register at the Ocean City Music Pier. Participants also can pre-register at www.cleanoceanaction.org.
Bayside Brunch (Oct. 22): A brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 provides a great opportunity to visit the 17-room bayfront estate of Realtor Nick Ochs, one of the most spectacular pieces of real estate in Ocean City. The event is a fundraiser for the Literacy Volunteers Association of Cape May and Atlantic counties, which supports adult literacy programs. Suggested donation is $40 and includes food, friends, music and a chance to experience the beauty of this 1940s estate with 250 feet of unobstructed bayfront views. Welcome Night (Oct. 25): The Ocean City Chamber of Commerce’s annual Welcome Night provides an opportunity for residents to meet Ocean City groups, businesses and organizations. The free event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center at Sixth Street and Boardwalk. For more information, call 1-800-BEACH-NJ.
John R. Elliott Hero Walk and 5K Run (Oct. 29): A 5-kilometer walk and a 5K run to promote the use of sober designated drivers and reduce the number of drunk driving tragedies (the mission of the John R. Elliott Hero campaign for Designated Drivers). Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center, Sixth Street and Boardwalk. Run begins at 9:30 a.m. Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Walk at 11 a.m. Visit herocampaign.org or call 609-626-3880.
