Renovations Planned For Ocean City Library's Second Floor

Ocean City residents had the chance to hear about plans to renovate the second floor during a meeting on Monday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City residents had the opportunity to learn about planned renovations at the Ocean City Free Public Library on Monday, Aug. 13.

The proposed project, which remains subject to final approval from Ocean City Council, includes the creation of a quieter space for tutoring and study sessions, according to ocnjdaily.com. There would also be more space for a 3D printer and audio and video equipment, as well as improved lighting. Work is expected to begin in the winter and last four to six months.

Project costs have not been finalized, but the cost is currently set at $720,000, according to the Press of Atlantic City. The money will come out of the library tax, which is not expected to increase as a result of the project. The project is part of a plan that began two years ago to keep the library as an important centerpiece of the community. It is the first renovations for the library proposed since 2008.

The project will take place entirely on the second floor, with no changes being made to the first floor, according to the Ocean City Sentinel. The meeting was held so that the library could be transparent about its plans. The Board of Trustees must also vote on the plan before it proceeds.
