Residents Can Still Make Appointment For Private Dredging In OC

Dredging of the main area of Carnival Bayou is now complete, Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said on Friday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Anyone who has not yet made arrangements to have their private slips dredged by the city contractor still has the opportunity, Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said on Friday.

“Dredging of the main area of Carnival Bayou is now complete, and bathymetric surveys indicate that all depth requirements have been met or exceeded,” Gillian said in his weekly update. “Trident Marine Piling has been hired to remove material from a buffer zone between private boat slips and the lagoon using mechanical dredging.”

Trident is also finishing work on dredging portions of Sunny Harbor and South Harbor and contracting with private owners to dredge boat slips there. Anyone who has not already finalized arrangements for dredging of private slips can call Joe Stewart from Trident at 609-703-7466 for an estimate.

In September, Ocean City Council approved legislation that allows private residents to take advantage of the citywide dredging project to conduct private dredging at a cheaper rate. There is a $200 permit fee, with a $3 per cubic square foot inspection escrow. The permit is needed because the city must still monitor the work.

On Friday, Gillian also said that work on beach replenishment and boardwalk reconstruction projects continue to make good progress.

“Beach crews are approaching Seventh Street in an effort to rebuild beaches between Seaspray Road and 12th Street,” Gillian said. “The boardwalk contractor is working to put decking in place to provide access to stores near 10th Street before Christmas.”

Additionally, work continues on road and drainage projects throughout town, and bids on the north end drainage project between First Street and Eighth Street are expected to be opened on Dec. 19 with work beginning early in the new year.

"I thank you all for your patience during these construction projects," Gillian said.
