South Jersey Cop Skipped Shifts, Collected Check: Prosecutor

An Elk Township police lieutenant with 24 years on the job has been charged with official misconduct and theft in excess of $500, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office announced. Walter P. Garrison is accused of not showing up for his assigned shifts between Nov. 16, 2016 and Aug. 23, 2017, but collecting a check for these hours anyway.

Garrison surrendered at the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office in Woodbury on Tuesday, Nov. 21. He was charged with second-degree misconduct and third-degree theft and released with a pending court date on Jan. 18, 2018.

Garrison makes $83,000 a year, according to the Courier Post. His current employment status is unknown.
